Nathan Taylor
Nathan’s approach and style has been shaped by a career that spans decades and hemispheres.
After completing Architectural Design at Otago Polytechnic in 1991, Nathan spent four years as an architectural technician in Queenstown. In 1996, he moved to the UK, where his portfolio included work for Harrods in London, the Fulham Football Club and (curiously) Her Majesty’s Prisons.
Nathan returned to his hometown of Dunedin in 1998 and worked for two architectural firms over the next 14 years. During this period, his work included major renovations, new residential builds, commercial property design and education projects.
In 2012, Nathan established Taylored Spaces.
Nathan has a NZCD(Arch), is a professional member of ADNZ and a Licensed Building Practitioner – Design Category 3.
Expertise
Designing for unusual sites
“I enjoy challenging scenarios. Every project is considered in the context of its surroundings and the client’s brief and budget.”
Taking out space to optimise quality
“I like to take space ‘out’ of houses. By shifting the focus away from floor area, towards quality construction. The result is a more dramatic build on a reduced footprint – a better house to live in”
Orientation
“Position and build for maximum solar gain, use mass to store the suns energy and trap the gains with an efficient thermal envelope”
